READY…SET…GO! Holiday Clubs 2018

The Beyond Gold team wants to encourage churches across the Gold Coast to be part of an exciting joint effort to impact kids and families for Christ during the period of the Games.

The vision is that 30 (or more) local churches each host a Holiday Club for primary school aged children at their church or a local venue. These Holiday Clubs would run concurrently from Tuesday 3 April to Friday 6 April, 2018. The Holiday Clubs would then culminate in all teams coming together regionally for all participants and their families on Saturday 7 April to be part of the community celebrations.

What would be required of participating churches?

You would provide a venue to host the Holiday Club. This may be a church building, a school, community centre or similar venue.

You would recruit a team of suitable leaders to run the programme. It may be that churches in close proximity combine their resources to run a Club together. The number of leaders required would be proportionate to the number of participating children.

You would market your Holiday Club individually, manage ticket sales and ensure costs etc are covered. (Guidelines and suggestions will be provided). The number of participating children would be up to the host church/es.

You would be responsible for organising transport to the Saturday Festival (this could be anything from asking parents bring kids themselves to providing buses).

You would have the opportunity to contribute in some way to the Saturday Festival and would be responsible for the care of their kids at the Festival.

Beyond Gold will provide:

A 12 month planning guide, giving ideas and suggestions on ‘what-needs-doing-when?’ to ensure the smooth running of a Holiday Programme.

A full Holiday Club programme template including suggested games, songs, craft activities, devotionals and general structures able to be operated either on a half-day or full-day programme basis. Each hosting church (or group of churches) will be welcome to adapt freely from the programme.

A Team Members Handbook with key information and expectations for team members. You will be able to tailor this to suit your environment.

A Small Group booklet for kids with a basic devotional/thought for the day and applicable activities to suit. You will be able to tailor this to suit your environment.

Training opportunities including a Programme Directors’ introduction and training, general team training sessions, Childsafe training sessions and a Programme Directors’ briefing will be made available for those wishing to take part.

A support team ready to answer questions, help find solutions, connect you with others who might be able to help you and ensure you have access to as many resources as possible.

Oversight of the Saturday Festival in conjunction with participating churches.

Summary

This is an opportunity for churches to come together to serve their local communities.

We want to make it as easy as possible for churches to run a high-quality programme which will impact children and families in their local communities.

It will also be a chance to come together across the Gold Coast to celebrate the Commonwealth Games and positive family experiences with a Christ-centred approach.
